Frequently Asked Questions
Your roadmap to IDPA Lithuania. Learn about our safety standards, equipment rules, and how to register for your first match.
I am a complete beginner. Can I still join?
Absolutely. In fact, IDPA is one of the best places to start because it focuses on practical gun handling rather than pure speed.
Every match begins with a safety briefing, and we offer specific “New Shooter Orientations” to walk you through the commands, safety rules, and scoring before you ever fire a shot. You will not be the only new person there.
Is IDPA safe?
Safety is our religion. IDPA operates on a “Cold Range” principle—firearms are always unloaded unless you are on the firing line under the direct supervision of a Safety Officer (SO).
Any unsafe behavior results in immediate disqualification. Because of these strict protocols, it is statistically one of the safest sports in the world.
How is IDPA different from IPSC?
Think of IPSC like Formula 1 racing – it’s about pure speed and high-tech custom gear. IDPA is like defensive driving.
We use real-world scenarios (shooting from behind cover, moving while shooting, engaging targets in tactical priority) and we use standard factory firearms that you would actually carry for self-defense.
What equipment do I need to start?
You do not need expensive gear. To start, you only need:
A reliable handgun (9mm or larger).
A standard hip holster (that covers the trigger guard).
Two magazine pouches and 3 magazines total.
Eye and ear protection.
Do I need a firearms license (Leidimas Ginklui)?
Yes. To be a full member and compete with your own firearm, you must comply with the Republic of Lithuania’s laws regarding firearms possession. If you are in the process of getting your permit, contact us – we can advise you on the best first steps.
Can I use my service weapon (Police/Military)?
Yes. IDPA is an excellent training supplement for duty officers. We have specific divisions (like Stock Pistol) that allow you to compete with your duty gear against civilians using similar equipment.
What does the membership fee cover?
Your annual contribution to Savigynos šaudymo sporto klubas “IDPA.LT”, VšĮ supports the maintenance of props (walls, steel targets), insurance, and range fees. It also grants you cheaper entry fees to matches and officially registers you with the international IDPA head office, allowing you to compete globally.
How often do matches happen?
We host club-level matches monthly, with larger regional qualifiers occurring throughout the season. Once you join, you will get access to our calendar and registration system via Practiscore.

Still have questions?
We aren’t a call center – we are active shooters and club officers. We review inquiries personally during business hours and will get you the right answer as fast as possible.
